Wouldn't you know it. There were Democrats that said, by microphones, they wanted Bush to fail. I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
Carville Wanted Bush To Fail. Of course the "mainstream media" didn't report it like they are moaning about Rush Limbaugh remarks about Obama.
Of course he said it the morning September 11, 2001 just before the attacks on the Trade Towers and the Pentagon. So it got lost in the chaos (cough, cough). However had that not happened, I really don't think the story would have gotten much airtime anyway.
Fox News even did a survey in 2006 where 51% of Democrats wanted Bush to fail.
You have got to love the part of the story about the focus groups felt about the then new President Bush. The utter nonsense about wether he had won or not. I haven't seen any about Obama (and there won't be any). Whom I am positive has FAR more people concerned about his performance and goals then anybody thought about Bush's.
With all the whining about the end of the era of newspapers, I think that era is already over. Most major papers haven't been all that great lately. I am thirty-five and I have read newspapers religiously since the second grade. Yes, the second grade, starting with the Chicago Sun-Times, (easier to read of the two Chicago papers) graduating later to the Tribune. The quality of both is far less then even back in the 1980's.
I don't get the dead tree version of either of those papers anymore. Partly due to being annoyed by both papers editorial boards (liberal and more liberal, the Tribune hasn't been conservative in a long time). But the newspaper distribution system has really broken down here in Northwest Indiana for the Chicago dailies. Neither paper would find my house (somehow the bill always did) very often. Neither paper seemed to care much that I didn't get my paper every day so I canceled.
There has got to be that problem in other places as well. Have you canceled a paper because they couldn't seem to get it to your house?
Thankfully there are two local papers here in Northwest Indiana. One, the (formerly Gary now Merrillville) Post-Tribune is owned and mismanaged by the Sun-Times. Its days are numbered unfortunately , I will not be surprised when that paper dies. The other the (formerly Hammond now Munster) Times seems to be doing fine. Of course it helps the other paper is a basket-case losing readers and advertisers. But it seems to have a future. I get this paper.
Newspapers in general are just poorly managed and the editorial boards are crazed these days. I think some papers will make it, and to be honest, they will be far better off with those bad papers in the history books. I will be happy the day the New York Times goes out of business. Maybe some day some new papers will be born, bringing back what was great about newspapers (and they will have great websites as well).
Hoping for Real Change!
