You may have seen the ads from GM that are running now.  The ones with the new chairman saying that they are paying back the government loans  five years early.   One problem,  they are using other bailout money from the government to pay these loans back.   That isn't noted in the ads.   Grassley Slams GM, Administration Over Loans Repaid With Bailout Money. 

It's not even GM's own operating funds, just other government money.    Figures!

I was wondering how GM was going to repay loans period,  let alone early.    GM is still losing big money, with the end of loses nowhere is sight.  

So they really aren't. 

We aren't getting our money back!  

Just some more fuzzy math the Obama regime is becoming famous for.


On a side note,  we are three days from the final 1000 days of the Obama regime,  provided we aren't stupid enough to reelect this joker!

It's no surprise that Justice Stevens is retiring.   He is 90 years old.   I was hoping he would retire during the last year of the Bush years since he was appointed by a Republican president, and it looked like the next president wouldn't be a Republican.  That was the tradition anyway, to retire during the presidency of the same party that nominated you.  Of course Souter didn't either.  Both liberal disappointments.  President Ford biggest mistake in office was nominating Stevens.    He is the banner justice for bad Republican choices made for the Supreme Court.   Mistakes liberals and Democrats don't seem to make.  

So now Barry gets a SECOND choice in only his second year.   Bush had only two choices, during eight years in office, none during his first term.    Souter and Stevens should have been replaced by a Republican president, and they should have known better then to let the Obama regime replace them with new liberals.    Obama seems to have the best timing in the world on these types of things it seems.  

So another liberal will be replaced by a liberal.   The stalemate will continue for quite some time. 

The Supreme Court is more important than ever.   There are some important things coming down the road towards the court over the next couple of years.   Things that could change this country for the better or for the worse.   Obamacare, gun control,  are just some of the big fights coming soon.   Constitutional justices are needed more then ever but none will be coming from the Obama machine.  

This fight will be nasty due to the restless nation that will not tolerate another bad choice.   Even worse then  Sonia Sotomayor, the wise latina justice, who got in fairly easy (compared with Roberts and Alito).    We have yet to see how big an activist she will be on the bench.  

The biggest question is:   What if Obama gets a third choice?

As it stands now:
Scalia, Thomas, Roberts and Alito are reliable Constitutional justices.  

Stevens, Ginsburg and Breyer  are reliable liberal activist justices.  Sotomayor likely will be the reliable liberal fourth vote.

Kennedy is the wild card.   Sometimes he goes the right way,  but goes the wrong way too often. 


Who is the most likely to retire (or die) next in the Supreme Court?

The conservative wing is younger then the liberal wing.   After Stevens leaves,  liberal justice Ginsburg will be the oldest member of the court (b. 1933).    With Sotomayor  (1954) and the new justice (? likely 1950-1965) will equal out the age difference a little. Scalia will be the oldest Conservative justice (1936),  Kennedy is the same age as Scalia (1936). 

Conservatives Thomas (1948), Roberts (1955), Alito (1950) and Liberal Sotomayor (1954) aren't going anywhere anytime soon.  

That leaves Liberals Ginsburg (1933), Breyer  (1938) and Conservative Scalia and wildcard Kennedy as the oldest members.   Ginsburg is the most likely to retire next, due to illnesses she has battled in recent years.    If Obama continues to not look like he will have a second term,  look for her to bail in 2011.    Maybe even Breyer as well, if he thinks he cannot wait out a Republican president.    Scalia likely won't retire until a Republican is in office if he can help it.   Kennedy once again is the wild card,  who knows when he will want to retire.  It will be his final unknown decision of his long carrier of unknown decisions.  He was nominated by Reagan so hopefully he will follow the tradition.  But who knows with him.  

Kennedy going is going to be the mother of all supreme court battles.  Because that retirement will be the change that will finally make the balance of the court change likely for a generation.   Will that next generation be yet another liberal one, or will a reliable conservative court finally arrive?    The party that is running the White House at the time will have the upper hand on that one.  We can only hope that Kennedy will still be in when Obama goes home to Chicago.   The best we can hope for is that Breyer  and Ginsburg are left for a Republican to replace as well and if anybody retires in Obama's term it would be one of those two keeping the stalemate.   Barry will retain the liberals seats with new liberals at all costs.    Hopefully Obama won't get a chance at replacing Scalia.  That would change the balance as well. 

So back to Stevens:

It will be Scalia, Thomas, Roberts and Alito holding up the conservative side with Ginsburg, Breyer,  Sotomayor and the new justice will be the liberal end.    So little will change with this one.   Hopefully the worst left wing choices that Obama wants will be left on paper with a more "moderate" choice his pick.   So far Obama hasn't chosen the moderate way yet on anything, he seems to have not learned that from Clinton.   So I don't think any choice will fly with conservatives. 

Looks like the battle for the soul of this country is going to go on for a very long time.    That's a shame.

Over the next couple of weeks you are going to hear many scary things that will result because of Obamacare.  

And you will hear from the lame-stream media and liberal groups calling it scare tactics.     Only thing is:  they are dead wrong.  

Obamacare is going to be a very bad law.   Not just because of the second or third rate care that will result,  the higher taxes,  the crushing debt the feds will run up,  the jobs lost or never created to begin with, that it's unconstitutional, the horrible back room deals,  the loss of freedom and prosperity. 

The biggest danger from Obamacare is the FEDERAL DEBT over time,  likely not that much time.    Not nearly as much time as most people are probably thinking.

Today the federal government finances debt largely by selling Treasury Bonds.    Its worked pretty well for the most part.    People line up around the world to buy them, and at times have been a good investment.    Its largely due to the fact that the U.S.  government has always paid out when they are due.  However it has made debt service the largest single item in the federal budget today.  

But what happens if the U.S. defaults?

Or issues so much debt there aren't enough investors for all of it?

Then it goes overnight from a good investment to yet another ponzi scheme. 

"Good will" towards this investment will disappear in a instance,  that took decades to build, and would take years to come back or may never recover AT ALL.

It's already a time bomb.  

Obamacare only cuts off the fuse much closer to the bomb. 

Any rational taxpayer knows that Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are unsustainable in the long term, the way it set up today.   It will someday consume the entire federal budget should nobody do anything to stop it.   The Democrats made sure that the Bush Administration and the Republican Congress  got no where when they tried to reform SS a few years ago.    Its hard to just end SS, due to so many using it for their retirement. 

Supporters of Obamacare claim that it will lower the deficit and that most of the costs will be found by rooting out cheaters and fraud  in Medicare and Medicaid.  Good luck with that since nobody has even tried to do those things.  We should try to prevent fraud in those programs, but there is no chance of that paying for it.   I wasn't great in Math in school but this fuzzy math doesn't add up.     Its just like SS,  rob Paul to pay Peter.     If we got serious about fraud the money should be returned to taxpayers not the treasury or another government program. 

If anybody in the private sector tried this way of finance,  they would go to prison for fraud. 

You just know it will cost far more then what they say.    Taxes will be raised.   There will be rationing.    However the debt will pile up faster and faster as the baby boomer retire.    Its going to happen.  

When the federal "credit card" is declined,   all hell is going to break out.    

It will make the recent problems in the financial world  look like a cakewalk. 
 
So I am getting to my point.   If the government cannot finance itself  how do we pay for the U.S. military?   Its by far the most important function of the Federal Government.   (Oh, by the way, the military is one of the very few things the constitution actually gives the feds a role) 

Many don't think we have any serious enemies.   If you think that,  you will be in for a big surprise.   It will create Chaos around the world if the U.S. military goes away and a vacuum is created.  It doesn't matter that you may have never supported this foreign policy, because we all have to live in the real world and have to deal with the real world, not some fantasy you may have come up with.   You know various terrorist groups would be more then willing to fill it,  with terrible results to millions. 

In a cash only world,  the end of SS, Medicare,  Medicaid and Obamacare would be guaranteed.     The Chaos resulting will be horrible because it will end suddenly. 

What's that story about putting all you eggs in the same basket.    If that basket fails,  there is a mess.  

Nobody should be dependent on the government.  Its a very bad idea from the 1930's and 1960's that doesn't ever seem to die.    That's why our politics are poison today,  because people have to defend a program they know is unsustainable because they have become dependent on it. 

Do I think everybody should have Medical Insurance?    Yeah,  for the most part.   Do I support reform of some sort,  yes.   Obamacare isn't reform by any means. Universal Healthcare doesn't exist anywhere in the world and it never will.     That includes nations with universal healthcare laws, because people fail everyday.    People will fall though the cracks, like many people in countries with socialized medicine.    That's why charity exists in the world.    Those organizations should be the ones empowered to help people in need,  not the government.

Is it November yet?

Today was a dark day for America.  

Our elected jokers KNOWING  FULL WELL

That the LARGE MAJORITY OPPOSES Obamacare (including not just Republicans and independents but a large group of Democrats as well)!

That they KNOW that Obamacare will help BANKRUPT America!

That they know that that many will be VOTED OUT OF OFFICE IN NOVEMBER due to voting for this Piece of Junk (and all the other junk in the last year).

They go AHEAD AND DO IT ANYWAY!



If we DO  NOT run these jokers out of office in NOVEMBER,  we are stupider then we look.


There is less freedom,  less prosperity in the US today. 

There will be a day, when the government of the United States will have no longer any credit left on its huge credit card if we spend and spend and spend and spend and spend.    That someday will be far closer due to this bill.

At that point we will be unable to defend ourselves militarily,  the financial crisis that will result will make our recent problems look like a cakewalk.   If we are unable to radically downsize government instead of growing it that is our future.    Pretty Scary, isn't it

If the Constitution didn't require it, the census likely really isn't worth doing this year.   Democrats have been trying over the last couple of years to game the 2010 census.  Various schemes are being tried to bolster numbers in "Democrat" districts.   Politics should have no say in the census,  but the Obama Regime decided its time for a "Change".  

It all started with the White House taking charge of the census for the first time EVER!   Image had Bush tried this power play,  the outrage would have been horrendous to say the least.   

Here is the local scheme here in Northwest Indiana,  just outside Chicago (image that!).    Some cities want to claim inmates on census.   Gary wants to count inmates that were "once" Gary residents but aren't due to being in prison.    Guess what Mayor Clay, they aren't Gary residents anymore.  You are gaming the system.  You are counted where you are,  not where you should have been.

I've heard of this nonsense being tried in a couple other high crime,  declining population, Democrat controlled cities around the country.   This is as bad,  if not worse then the corrupt organization ACORN committing voter fraud all over the Democrat parts of Lake County. 

Hopefully this illegal gaming of the census is stopped.   Not only do we have to preserve the correct counting of the population.  We cannot allow the extra federal money that would come if they could raise the numbers on the Gary census.  ACORN wasn't stopped in Lake County  so this fraud will likely stand as well.   If they aren't stopped 700 will be added to Gary even though they aren't living here in 2010.

Just a few days after a left wing nutcase flew an airplane into an IRS building,  another left wing "truther" nutcase tries to shoot up the Pentagon subway station.   

Yes, both of these folks are left wingers,  in spite of the lamestream media once again trying to pin it on the right.  The subway shooter is a registered DEMOCRAT.   But they hope that if they say it enough,  people will think its so. 

And it does work for the most part.   Take the Nazis and Hitler for example.    A signs point to the left wing beliefs of both Hitler and the Nazis party.   What they did points to left wing goals.   But ask the average man on the street,  and they will say that Hitler was a right winger!    AND IT'S TOTALLY WRONG!  

Why?  Because the media and historians (since most lean left)  have said over and over and over that Hilter was a right wing nutcase.  They couldn't do the same to Communists and Stalin since it would be impossible to do so.    So even though Stalin killed far more then Hitler was able to do,  he isn't as bad.   So pin Hitler on the right and downplay Stalin.   So even plenty of conservative folks even think Hitler was a right wing.   But he wasn't.   Hitler was a left winger just like Stalin. 

Its been said that both Hitler and Stalin likely suffered from various kinds of mental illnesses.  Could it be that liberalism leads folks to getting mental illnesses?

I guess dingy Al Gore  is wishing he  could hide under a rock or something.   Now that everybody knows "global warming" is a complete fraud, some folks are finally calling him to the mat on it.    Some shareholders of Apple Computer want him off the board of the ipod, mac and iphone maker.    Now he is blowing off the Senate, which doesn't go over too well with those folks. 

I am looking foward to global warming hitting the dustpan of history.  It couldn't happen soon enough.

Pity we have wasted billions of dollars on it though,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Most of the time,  the end of a business is a sad thing.   Someone's hopes and dreams are dashed by the realities of the free enterprise system and the over-regulation that comes with today's bad business climate.    It can be harsh and seemingly unfair at times.   But most of the time the business has fundamental problems from the very beginning. 

Air America had those fundamental problems.   It was a business looking for a market that doesn't exist.  Most business today, success is due to finding and filling a niche.   It was clear to everyone outside this business that there was no need for a another liberal radio network.   First of all, there aren't nearly as many liberals as conservatives,  strike one.   Most lamestream media outlets are already liberal to begin with, so the market for liberal news is over-covered to begin with.  Many of these media outlets are slowly going out of business as we read this.  Strike two.   There already is a liberal radio network,  unfortunately funded by all taxpayers,  NPR.   Strike three.   The "talent" were not entertaining and were angry all the time.   The "angry" focus was due to liberal belief that conservative radio is angry (not true is any way) and since they were copying it,  they needed to be angry.   Strike four.

Conservative talk radio is successful because it has little to no competition.  It actually isn't a niche market, its a large market that has been ignored for decades.    Outside of a handful of newspapers and magazines,  the internet and the only moderate TV outlet,  Fox News, there aren't many conservative news outlets.   If they wanted to make money they should have founded a conservative network.   But another of their fundamental problems was they really didn't care if they made money, I guess they figured they would have government money someday.    And so they didn't.   Even a non-profit has to watch the money, but they didn't want to dirty themselves with money. 

Since I thought Air America had gone out of business already,  I was caught by surprise by yesterday's announcement of the end.    However I wasn't surprised that Air America would go out of business someday.   Sometimes the free enterprise system isn't unfair and the irony is delicious.   Hopefully someday taxpayers will be successful at ending the funding of NPR.   We can only hope for real change someday.

The lamestream media probably never thought this would ever happen.   Republican Scott Brown winning Ted Kennedy's seat (Like it belonged to him and the Democrat party).   In spite of a really lame and creepy candidate,  the Democrats thought this one wasn't going to be a problem.    After all its Massachusetts,  all the conservatives left a long time ago, right?

They had no idea they had a big problem in Massachusetts.  And not just because some guy drives a pickup.   If things don't change for Democrats and Obama,  they are going to be in a world of hurt.  2010 can be very big for Republicans.   So will the Obama regime learn from the many mistakes of its first year and the early Clinton years?  Hard to tell yet. 

A early guess at what the response will be:  Obama-Care.   Are they going to try to rush this in,  as they likely try to hold up seating Brown?  Or is it as dead as Hillary-Care?    I guess it will be how much Obama wants a second term.    Until now,  it looked like Obama-Care was happening no matter how unpopular it is.   Scott Brown has changed that from being a certainty.   Thank God. 

The next couple weeks could be a nail biter.   Obama-Care isn't quite dead yet but its on life support.   Hopefully,  Obama-Care will be hitting the dustpan of history.  Soon!

On the Big Government Blog,  they referred to the "Mainstream" Media as the Lamestream Media.    I like it, think its funny and more descriptive of what they are.   Since the "mainstream" media is far from being mainstream, giving them that title is misleading and gives them far too much credit.   So from now on,  the "mainstream" Liberal Media will be referred to as the Lamestream Media on this blog.

The traffic to this blog is WAY down lately.  Is it  due to yet another townhall.com redesign that has buried the user blogs?   There is no longer any blog-roll at all for the user blogs.   On the local radio websites there is no longer any user blogs at all.  The interest of the management at townhall seems to have moved on.

It hardly seems worthwhile to bother writing anything anymore for this blog.  I used to get hundreds of page hits a month,  last month I only got twenty or so.    Plus I can't find other users or their posts very well.

I am seriously considering discontinuing this blog.

So Townhall what's the story?

Unfortunately Christmas Eve will been known for more then being the day before Christmas from now on.   It will be known as the day that the Senate ruined the American health care industry.   One eighth of the total economy of the U.S. will be nationalized by 60 people,  who think they know better then all of us.  

And for what.  Power!

Power over us,  the dimwits that elected them. 

Government has been taking more and more of our Freedoms from us over the last century.   A new rule here,  a law there,  a "temporary" tax that is now decades old.    The nanny state is alive and all too well.    President Reagan may have slowed it down a little in the 1980's but he wasn't able to stop it.   He is the only president that really tried to stop it.  

Its a threat from within that threatens our national well being.   Are we so dumb that we need our government to make all of our choices for us.  

Keep in mind this is the same government that has a hard time misdirecting our mail.   This is the government that "runs" the worst passenger train "service" in the developed world and loses billions of our tax dollars in the process.    This is the same government that has made it so many on welfare think they will never do better and never get to move on with their lives,   and ruins the lives of their children to boot.   This is the same government that runs Planned Parenthood,   turning children away from the beliefs of their parents and society as a whole,  creating the abortion industry.    This is the same government that cannot stop spending our retirement money now so that there won't be enough money for all that have been promised something for old age. 

This is the same government that will some day tell me that I cannot drink a soda pop,  eat a french fry,  smoke a cigarette or ride a motorcycle without a helmet.    Or to read the Bible in the public square.  

Do I need to go on?

This is a cancer on our society.   A cancer that has to be cured.  Or the U.S. is doomed to failure.  

Its more then the second or third class medical care that results from nationalized healthcare.   There are so many nations to look at in the world to show what it  is like.   The whole world will suffer because we stopped caring and got lazy.  

A line in the sand must be drawn.    One where we tell our elected jokers that we don't want what they are serving. 

Once nationalized healthcare is here,  it will be very difficult to end.

How anything the Obama Regime does,,,,,  look to them as good ideas,,,,,  is a mystery to many.    Including me.   Administration Transfers 12 Gitmo Detainees Overseas, Despite Concerns.   Here yet another bad idea in the making.   In typical Obama fashion  its buried on a weekend.    So no  mainstream  coverage  (not that they would  cover it much to begin with)  little coverage by FOX  News.   Rush or any other commentators won't be able to comment until Monday at the  earliest,  so it's a stale story by then. 

This is one of the scariest parts of the Obama organization.   Lack of any judgment.  None at all.   You know they will be making the wrong choice almost every time.   Even when the outcome is known.    Granted there are times when you don't know the outcome,  but they get the easy ones wrong.   Coupled with the complete lack of any transparency on the Obama White House.  He campaigned on becoming the most transparent,  is still criticizing the Bush Administration  for being  "secret" but is far less transparent in office then Bush ever was.    He gets away with it because the "mainstream" media doesn't call him on the matt for it. 

In the case of these terrorists,  I hate to say it,  but I hope the Army has better aim next time.    The justice system has broken down due to Obama's Chicago style politics,  and terror victims are of no concern for Mr. Hope and Change.
