Yet Another Dumb Shortsighted Obama Decision: Pulling Plug on Nuclear Waste Site

The Obama administration is just full of wrongheaded decisions.    After wasting 13 billion,  the federal government is pulling the plug on the nuclear waste site in Nevada.    The government has been charging ratepayers since 1982 to take the waste from nuclear power plants,  none of which has it even taken.

So now the nuclear industry has nowhere to go with this waste.   They stopped planning because the  government had taken  the job.  That  was a bad idea to start with,  but  now the government isn't going to give back the money it took or take the waste.

Of course this is part of the plan that liberals have on nuclear energy.    They have hated nuclear energy for decades.  Today's biggest reason is  probably because its the only "clean and green" energy that could actually replace coal and oil.   Unlike other green energy sources favored by liberals like wind and solar that have no chance of ever becoming more then niche sources.

By making it impossible to rid the waste they hope that will finally put the last nail in nuclear power in the U.S.

Exporting it will be impossible due to security reasons.    And finding another site will also be impossible.

Democrats new slogan should be :  Making problems last forever, so we can get reelected!

"Enemies" of Obama Fight Back

I never thought that anyone would compare Obama to,,,,,,,,Nixon!

Here we are though.    Many liberals to this day think that Nixon had a enemies list.    I doubt Nixon ever had or kept such a list,  but he was not unwilling to share his distaste of his critics.    Which many of them seemed to really hate.     Of course they were accusing him of all sorts of things he had nothing to do with,  which is more annoying in my book.     I couldn't have blamed Nixon if had a enemies list,   he had to put up with as much  nonsense as  President Bush  did.

Liberals went nuts when they believed that many thought they were not patriotic in the Bush years.   I don't know where they got that insane idea from but they did, I don't know of anyone from the Bush White House saying they weren't .    Now that Obama is in office and conservatives are the protesters,,,,   now protesting is unpatriotic.    Huh!!    I thought protesting was a sacred duty of Americans.

Oh, wait!    For liberal protesters that is.   My mistake.

Don't you love double standards!    But lets forget about that grassroots protesters for a second.    More recently the Obama White House has attacked Fox for being Republican.   I also don't remember the Bush White House attacking CBS, NBC, ABC, NPR, PBS,  CNN and the rest  for being Democrat.

Now its the Chamber of Commerce.    This organization hasn't yet been hijacked by liberal activists (unlike so many other organizations that no longer do what its members want or need, like the AMA)  so it is actually  is doing what its members actually would want.     Since most of Obama's policies are very anti-business,  so they  have to oppose them.   Should be easy to understand.   Anyone running a small business has to oppose Obama's policies or they won't have a business for long if this junk becomes law.

So they go on the enemies list for actually doing their job.    Liberals have gotten used to having major organizations throwing their own members under the bus to support liberal causes so it must be a shock when this groups tells him his plan sucks.

Chamber Benefiting From White House Criticism, Group's President Says.

Hopefully that will keep them from bailing on their own members because of some bad press from the "fair and balanced mainstream media".     The chamber must continue  to oppose anti-business policies of the federal government.    Just because the media is anti-business doesn't mean that most Americans are too.     Most of us are employed by small business.    Millions will lose their jobs if these job killing policies come to be.

Senator Snowe, You Are A Flake!

Watch out!  Here come the RINO's again!    Senator Snowe of Maine,  will be the only Republican to vote for the train wreck otherwise known as "healthcare reform".   Health Care Reform Bill Clears Final Senate Panel, Tough Negotiations Loom.

Last time I looked,  there was a R behind your name Senator.   That means you vote NO!

Time to send yet another RINO packing.  Hey voters in Maine, paying attention!   Don't make us pay because you are sending this joker to Washington.     This is a problem the Democrats never have.

We sure need a real conservative party.

Rio In For The Olympics In 2016: Chicago Taxpayers Off The Hook For Once!!

I knew for a while that Chicago would likely lose the 2016 Olympics bid to Rio.   Today they finally did.    The Olympics games have never been in South America.     I think that was the biggest thing Rio had over Chicago,  since the Olympics have been in the U.S. many times already.   The pickers of the location are of the same type as Obama (liberal and elite) and his ilk, so a choice like Rio is a pretty sure thing and so politically correct.    Though the "star" power of Obama and his wife over those folks did make it more likely Chicago had a chance of changing that.  But it wasn't enough.    The first round cut was a surprise though.

When they started talking about Chicago biding for the Olympics,  I thought,  that could be cool.   But as time went on,  I cooled to the idea of it.   At the end I opposed it more then anything.

It was a top down type of planning.    Never good.    Recent polls showed that at the end more Chicagoans opposed having the Olympics here then those that did.    The boosters were accused of being heavy handed in how the bid went and how the city would hold the games if it was won.

Like how Chicago taxpayers would be on the hook for cost overruns and losses.    You know that would happen.   Every city loses money on the games.   Montreal held the games in 1976 and only paid off its losses in 2006!    Thirty years is a long time to be paying for something that does even last two weeks!     When Mayor Daley agreed to "cover" the costs I knew the opposition had powerful charge to not hold the games in Chicago.    The U.S. federal government does not cover cost overruns for Olympic games,  unlike most if not all other governments of the world.   That should never change but it does hurt bids from the U.S.  (the feds also don't pay for athletes,  private money is used for our teams).  This is the biggest reason Chicago lost.     They lost the support of the majority of resident of the Chicago area.

The handing of the former Michael Reese Hospital site was a complete disaster too.   The city wanted the site for the Olympic village so no effort was made to save the hospital.     Now that will stand vacant for many years.     Maybe now some of the buildings that would have been bulldozed for no good reason will now be saved for reuse someday.    It could be a good place for a college or university campus or even a hospital again.

The south side Washington Park "temporary" stadium was a stupid idea from the the beginning.  It showed how bad the Solder Field renovation was to anything other then football.  No one noticed that few residents near the park wanted the Games in their park.   Even though the city would finally put some money into that long neglected  park.    At least some work got done there to show to visitors,  but I doubt we will be hearing much about any other improvements there soon.

We can go on about the corruption that would have resulted from the money flying around.   Or the spotlight on some of the most corrupt politicians the U.S. has to offer.  Or the huge costs increases  that would hurt only the lower and middle classes.   It would have been really bad.   Even worse considering the  serious recession we are in,  with no light at the end of that tunnel.

Of course its not just Chicago when it comes to some of the bad things about the Olympics.  Even Salt Lake City couldn't keep the corruption down and out of the news!   The idea of the Olympics is even noble and is something we should be doing.    However the games are in need of some reform.    I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Such as:

Site selection:    When nations like Communist China,   the Soviet Union and  Nazis Germany are picked to be sites for the Olympics we have a problem.    I get the "we aren't here to judge governments"  thing,  but it is still wrong headed to pick places like that.    Host sites should be limited to free nations.

Second part of site selection:  Poor nations will never host the games.   Never!   Of course some will argue with me that Rio isn't a wealthy place,  but it is far from being the poorest place as well.    Why don't poor nations host?   They cannot afford the huge costs that come with it.   Building a stadium no one will use after the game is something that shouldn't be done even if you can "afford" it.   Most of the venues built for the Athens games in 2004 are unused and rotting away today.    They will be paying for them for a long time.     The costs should be lowered so more places can host.    The Olympics have never been to South America until Rio,  and Africa has never hosted and has little chance of hosting anytime soon.

Economic benefits:   Every city seems to over reach when it comes to glorifying the economic benefits that should come with hosting.   Every booster hammers away on this every time.     Only problem,  it isn't true.      There are some benefits like good publicity and the short term gains that come.    But economic growth isn't one of them.   I am so tired of hearing this every time.    Why can't they let that one go!    The games have to be seen on their own merits,  not some pie in the sky thing that NEVER happens!   Its the day after and on that worries me,  and they don't plan for that.     What happens is that prices increase until the games and crash after it's all over.

Government funding of games and teams:   The U.S. stands alone by not funding teams with tax dollars.   All other nations pay for their teams with tax payers money.   Its become standard for the host nation to cover the losses that occur.    That is something the U.S. government hasn't done and I hope never does.     Reform cannot happen without the removal of money from taxpayers.     Taxpayers should not be funding the games,  I can't think of a good reason why anyone would want that.    Wouldn't you think more teams could come if private money would replace public around the world?

Would I have liked having the games in Chicago?   Yeah,  I would have liked it.   It would have been fun.    Maybe some day Chicago can host the games.   Hopefully in the future when Chicago could be in a better position to be host.    It isn't today.     Today's leadership cannot even do what it is charged with doing.   Having the games coming would have made that far worse for the resident of Chicago and all of us that live around it.      We need new leaders before Chicago can have the Olympic games.   At least  Chicago taxpayers are off the hook for this one!

John Stossel Ditches ABC for FOX

John Stossel is moving up in the media world.   Leaving the failing ABC News Department for FOX Business News.    Read about it here.   He is a breath of fresh air which is far too rare in the "mainstream" media.   Though not a conservative,   he is a rare reporter who isn't afraid to tell folks when something is full of bull even when it is someones sacred cow.

Yet Another U.N. Scandal

Without fail,  the U.N.  shows how useless it is.   Health Emergency? Dial 911, Not U.N. Medical Services.   In spite of a 38 million dollar budget,  one still must call 911 if you need help at the UN head office in NYC.    The doctor in charge has no license in New York state.    So where is that 38 million going.   No one seems to know.

Another bad idea,  also from the U.N.   Report: U.N. Panel Calls for End to Dollar's Reserve Role.    They call for MORE governmental intervention in the economies of the world.    If this near depression shows us,  we need far LESS government interference in the economy.    Of course sending fewer or none of OUR dollars to the U.N. is never  discussed.     They don't even know what to do with the money we don't want to send them,  they have the balls to give advice!

One Down, Thirty (or so) To Go

One of the things that have been really bugging about the Obama White House is all the czars.    I hate to have to say it yet again,  but had Bush done the same thing (he did have a few)  with  the large amount of czars,  the Democrats would have been beside themselves with outrage.    The reality is that Bush really needed the czars far more then Obama,  since getting conservatives past the Senate is like pulling teeth,  hard and painful.

However since its Barry,  its OK!    Never mind that B.O. would have no trouble with getting his picks for the cabinet though Congress he resorts to czars with no oversight from Congress.    Doesn't he trust his own Democrat majority in Congress?   I guess not,  maybe he knows it likely he has only two years of a Democrat one?    Most of these "jobs" should (and would be, by any other president) be done by cabinet level officials.  Not that very many of these "jobs" really need to be done (green jobs czar, diversity czar,  give me a break!)

Maybe it shows how little management experience he has,  or how much he is dumping "work"  on others.    This White House is showing cracks,  its great at campaigning  but pretty lousy at running itself in office.   I guess that why things like health care are being run like campaigns.

Well,  he pulled the plug on one of the czars late Friday when nobody would notice or care.   Van Jones the "green" czar was forced out.    He had so pretty radical ideas,  something the Obama White House has a large supply of.

The sad thing is,  he isn't the worst the Obama czars has to offer.   There is another that is far worse in my book.   He hasn't got much attention  either,  even from the conservative side.    I don't know why more aren't going after him,  there was a piece on Fox but it seems to have died.

His name is John Holdren,  the "science" czar.   This guy is a pure wacko.   I don't even know where to start with this guy.

Here is the whole story from Zombietime,  its a long piece.   Zombie is a blogger who is one of the best investigative reporters out there today.    It shows that its pure nonsense that only the "mainstream" media can do great investigative reporting,  not that they do it anymore.   There is also a great piece from before the election where he came very close to linking Obama to the Weather Underground.    Had others been doing this,  the link probably would have been found and there wouldn't be a Prez Obama!   My guess that's what the L.A. Times is still hiding from the public.   No proof on that theory.

This is the place that Fox News found the story (on Holdren) that hasn't gone anywhere.     But back to Zombie,  here's the main website.   He started with a mostly photography based site,   with shots from anti-bush rallies etc.    He has done more writing,  the very detailed reporting you don't see much anymore.    Check it out.

Going After The Kids: It Can't Be More Creepy

Since Obama's brand of healthcare "reform"  isn't too popular with anyone voting age,  they are going after the kiddies.     So in all the chaos of the first day of school, many students will have to watch a speech from the chosen one.      How creepy is that?   As a person interested in history it gives me the creeps.

Image the outrage that would have resulted had President Bush decided to do so!

But since its Obama,  many schools will require the kids to watch.    Many parents have decided to keep their children home that day.

Using people's kids against their own parents  is a common tactic by totalitarian countries.    Having to defend your beliefs vs. the ones pushed by liberals in OUR public schools shouldn't be.

Parents rights will be severely eroded during the Obama years,  with a judge ordering a home-schooled child into public school a few days ago.   Government has no right to co-op parents will.   There is no partnership between government and parents when it comes to children,  Obama has no right to push his agenda during the school day.  There is so much to be done the  first day of school,  having to watch Obama,  was an inconsiderate thing for him to have done as well.

Going The Wrong Way On Federal Employment Levels: Up By A Third!

A study shows that the federal workforce will likely increase by a third under Obama.   Its probably true.    Many baby-boomers are reaching retirement leaving even more "openings".

Unfortunately increasing federal employment is a mistake.   Not just because the economy is so bad now,  it's never a good thing for the country to have high levels of government employees.

They have to be paid.   Taxpayers are the ones doing the paying.   Many still think that  government work still has lower pay then the private sector, but that's no longer true.   Many government jobs now pay better or have better benefits, plus its nearly impossible to get fired.

If anything,  federal employment should decrease by a third.

It should be more then, that but a third is a start.   Retiring people shouldn't be replaced and expansions need to be stopped.    However Washington D.C. has other ideas with plans with hiring of nearly 270,000.    Our government is more deaf then ever.

List of Long Term Senators: There Are Far Too Many In Number

If you read my last post,  I wrote about term limits.   Here is a list of long serving U.S. Senators.

Lets start with those in office more the twenty years.

1.    Robert Byrd (D-WV:                    January 3, 1959
2     Daniel Inouye (D-HI)                   January 3, 1963

18     Richard Shelby (R-AL)               January 3, 1987
19     John McCain (R-AZ)                  January 3, 1987
20     Harry Reid (D-NV)                        January 3, 1987
21     Kit Bond (R-MO)                        January 3, 1987

24     Joe Lieberman (D-CT)         January 3, 1989
25     Daniel Akaka (D-HI)                  May 16, 1990

So 25 present Senators have been in office more then twenty years.   One from the 1950's,  One from the 1960's (down from 2),  six from the 1970's,  16 from the 1980's.

The following have been in office at least ten years.

26     Dianne Feinstein (D-CA)       November 10, 1992

32     Bob Bennett (R-UT)             January 3, 1993
33     Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX)         June 14, 1993
34     Jim Inhofe (R-OK)     November 17, 1994
35     Olympia Snowe (R-ME)     January 3, 1995
36     Jon Kyl (R-AZ)           January 3, 1995
37     Ron Wyden (D-OR)     February 6, 1996
38     Sam Brownback (R-KS)     November 7, 1996
39     Pat Roberts (R-KS)     January 3, 1997
40     Richard Durbin (D-IL)     January 3, 1997
41     Tim Johnson (D-SD)     January 3, 1997
42     Jack Reed (D-RI)     January 3, 1997
43     Mary Landrieu (D-LA)     January 3, 1997
44     Jeff Sessions (R-AL)     January 3, 1997
45     Susan Collins (R-ME)     January 3, 1997
46     Mike Enzi (R-WY)       January 3, 1997
47     Chuck Schumer (D-NY)     January 3, 1999
48     Jim Bunning (R-KY)          January 3, 1999
49     Mike Crapo (R-ID)        January 3, 1999
50     Blanche Lincoln (D-AR)     January 3, 1999
51     George Voinovich (R-OH)    January 3, 1999
52     Evan Bayh (D-IN)         January 3, 1999

If you use my ten year rule 52 senators would have to go home  right now (actually more would have to go).    A full 50 percent has been in office more then a decade.   And that doesn't count years some served in the House.   Most of these folks aren't going anywhere anytime soon.   We could have 52 new faces in the Senate if we rid it of those that were in office already in the last century.

Yet Another Reason There Should Be Term Limits in Congress: Teddy Kennedy

As the media saints the recently departed Teddy Kennedy,  the reality of his life sometimes does get past the gatekeepers of the "mainstream media" once in a while.    ABC Buries Harsh Kennedy Obit,  One That Labels Him a 'Failure' in the Middle of the Night.   Of course it was in the middle of the night so even fewer people saw it, and this brave reporter will undoubtedly be shown the door shortly.

I can go over the many failures of Teddy Kennedy,  but there are many places you can find that kind of history of him,  so I won't (they are there, just don't bother with the mainstream media).    I am not like one of those liberal blogger's who slander and are vile when a well known conservative passes.   So don't look for it here.

But the biggest fact of Teddy Kennedy's life remains.    That he was in the U.S. Senate from age 30 to his death at 77.    That is a loooooonnnng time.   Way to long!

Yes,  he isn't the only one.   That record belongs to the still serving Democrat Senator Byrd of West Virginia  at 50 years, 7 months.   If I were a resident of West Virginia I wouldn't be too happy he hasn't stepped down.    Since he hasn't been in the Senate much lately due to his bad health.   Like he has much of a chance of getting better!    So that state has really only had one senator lately (and I use the word late lightly).   Of course the other senator is John Rockefeller so they don't have the best and brightest to begin with.   Byrd has been in office longer then Hawaii has been a state!

There have been a total of twenty-five senators that have been in office more then 33 years!   All but two served during the twentieth and/or into the twenty-first  century.    Don't get me wrong since most of the long servicing senators were Democrats,  long serving senators are bad from any party.    I think it has lead to some of the problems we have today.   The founding fathers would have never  wanted long serving politicians,  the average voter probably doesn't either,  but it's  hard to remove a long-timer, even a relatively unpopular one.

The founding fathers  envisioned the citizen legislator.  The guy that takes time from his business or job to serve his country in Congress. The guy that  then goes back to what he was doing before that,  after a short time in office.   We really don't have that at the federal level anymore.  Most of these guy's have never had real jobs or businesses.   I think that is as bad as the fact that most are lawyers as well.

Some states like Texas and Indiana do better at not creating the carrier politician.   Others like Illinois are as bad as Washington.    Indiana statesmen are part time,  and the pay is low so you have to have a real job.   Texas legislation only meets once every two years for a mandated time, and they can't run over.    The time needs to be very limited to keep these guys from becoming Teddy Kennedy's.

The point is that nobody should be a carrier politician.   Or at least a lot fewer of them.  Congress becomes too much like a college campus where reality and facts become faint and distant.     They become so they don't understand the problems they are causing people with stupid tax laws and regulations.   They don't understand they are the main reason why many places in our country like Gary and Detroit get left behind.

The longer one is in Washington D.C.  the easier it is to do what they do in that town.    Things happen that would never happen if you had gone back home already.    It becomes your reality,  which is not reality anywhere else.   Notice how many, when they are "retired",  don't go back to their "home" district.   They take jobs as  lobbyists, etc in D.C.

So what should those  limits be?

I have been thinking about that.     The House is easier,  since the terms are only two years.   Maybe no more then three terms.     The Senate is harder since the terms are six years.   Since it's that long and two terms gives you 12 years in Washington,  one term may be the limit.    Of course the hard part is the one that wants to move up from the House to the Senate,   there should be limits on both House and Senate terms,  because even under my plan,  one can be in Washington 12 years.   Maybe Senate terms should be shorter.

Or maybe a lifetime total of ten years.   So if you have served for three terms in the House you can only serve part (4 years) of a Senate term, opening up even more spots for new blood for the other 2 years.

All this gives more people the opportunity to serve.  We could have some fresh ideas.   I can't image Kennedy had a fresh idea in decades.   These long-termers block more talented people from ever setting foot in Congress.    Terms limits have kept presidents from serving longer then eight years (thankfully we never have to have another day of a Bill Clinton presidency).   So why not Congress?

So what do you think?

California So Broke, Schwarzenegger Holds Garage Sale

California is so broke,  Governor Schwarzenegger hopes to raise some cash by selling surplus state property.   Schwarzenegger Holds 'Great California Garage Sale'.   OK,  why does the state of California own a X-box 360? (That's a gaming system for those of you who don't know what that is).  Let alone a "surplus" one?

There is a reason the founding fathers didn't want the government to do much.    This is one of the reasons why.    The government is that relative that cannot hold on to money if his life depended on it.

Ever Wonder Why Most Americans Don't Want to Be Like Europeans

I think liberals wonder why most Americans reject most ideas that come from Europe.    Of course bad ideas should be rejected no matter where they come from.   However it seems many bad ideas that see the light of day in the last century or so have come from the elite of Europe.

Like this latest lame attempt to end racism.   European Groups Ban 'Racist' Everyday Phrases.    Liberals seem to think that minorities are offended by everyday language,  that may or may not make them sound inferior.    Its rooted in the can't offend at any expense no matter what.   Which always ends at discriminating against the majority (like Christians).

Will this nonsense end racism.  Not a chance!
