Well, we are on day two of get rid of the auto dealers. Yesterday we saw which Chrysler dealers were dead ducks. Today GM enters the bloodbath.
Yeah, plenty of these dealers got to go. I have been saying in past posts that many have to go. But I have been wondering what criteria they are using to pull the rug out from these dealers. At least with the dealers that will no longer be selling Chrysler vehicles here in Northwest Indiana and the south suburbs of Chicago.
At least one of the places closing is one of the two shops of the local sleaze-bag dealer. I figured since he was high volume he wouldn't be touched. Of course he keeps one of his stores, but he lost one. So at least one bad place will be gone. But most of the rest have me wondering. Some are the big dealers around here, or at least I thought they were.
Of course the media makes it sound far worse then it is. All these jobs will be lost, oh my! Many dealers sell other brands so they will remain as new car dealers. They have already lost most of the jobs associated with selling and servicing Chrysler or GM vehicles. Many other dealers will live on as used car dealers and auto services, which by the way is far more profitable for most dealers then selling new vehicles!
So the job losses will be less then they think. Not discounting the people that will lose their jobs, but most dealers will find a way to stay in the auto business. Most love the business of selling and servicing cars.
But Its the auto makers themselves are the ones that don't seem to want to stay in business. Now that B.O. is calling the shots, the mismanagement will live on dooming the companies, I am really starting to think. Inviting government to "solve" its problems won't do anything to save the American auto industry.
Liberals like B.O. really don' t like cars to begin with. They think everyone will be so happy waiting around for and riding buses and trains. Never mind that less then 1% of us do so on a regular basis. They don't like money, or at least the profits part of it anyway. So B.O.'s "restructuring" of the American auto industry will probably not include how the industry will make money again. Which sort of makes the rest sort of pointless. They will order the auto industry to build small and "green" cars of dubious quality. (Note to B.O. and company, American don't like little cars even when gas is expensive). Which means continued huge losses. And nationalization of the leftovers of the business. Think of all the lousy cars of the late 1970's and early 1980's because thats what the government will be building at huge expense.
So what is the main problem of the auto industry?
Its money!
The government is that relative that has no idea about money and you just put him in charge of it!
Until that issue is fixed, the auto industry will be a money pit for the taxpayer. Green cars WILL NOT SAVE THE AUTO INDUSTRY! Government bailouts will not save the auto business. Giving stock to the unions will not save the auto business. Its time to act like real business people and run it like a business not a government agency. Why are we letting morons run the economy?
Hoping for Real Change!
