Some good news, the Republican party has rid itself of a RINO today. Senator Specter of Pennsylvania has formally become a Democrat today. He has been voting like one for quite some time now so it isn't a surprise.
This is good news for the people running against him in the primary, they can now save their strength for the general election. One of them can now have the Republican nomination without going against a liberal in the primary, they can save it for the liberal in the general election. Pennsylvania will now have a conservative choice for senator, something it hasn't had for a very long time.
On a sidenote, wouldn't it be funny if Specter loses the Democrat primary!! It was looking like he would not win the Republican primary in 2010, he barely beat Pat Toomey in the last one in 2004. Thats the only reason why I think he did it now, there are no other good reasons at this point to do so. Democrats are likely to be even more unpopular in 2010 then they are now.
We can now add that seat to the list of "got a good" chance of turning Republican in 2010. Its much better now with Specter a Democrat. Hopefully there will be a Senator Pat Toomey (R) of Penn. in 2012.
Pennsylvania will be much better off with a retired Arlen Specter. So will the country. The Republican party didn't change, Specter slipped to the left. Another good reason for term limits, the longer you serve the loonier most get.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Senator!
Hoping for Real Change!
