Today's "winner" of Open Mouth, Insert Foot is Tom Hanks. I do like many of Tom's movies and enjoy his acting. Unfortunately he is as biased against religious people like far too many in Hollyweird.
His statement is as ignorant as it is telling about how one can be so insulated from the majority of Real America. He believes that he is in the majority when he opens his mouth politically. Although many of his movies place him in a role of an mainstream American, he is not personally.
Far too many Hollyweird Actors and Actresses express themselves politically, but their politics are so much the same in their isolation from reality. Don't get me wrong, they have every right to talk politics, but I wish they would think and get more information before they talk.
Its clear that Prop-8 is supported by the majority even in liberal California. Many of the same people who voted for Obama also supported Prop-8. Many liberals now hope the courts will once again go against the will of the people and remove Prop-8.
Hanks calling Mormons un-American is uncalled for and should be condemned. Singling out one group out of many that supported prop. 8 is especially ignorant and biased.
Religious rights are slowly eroding in this country. Statements like Tom Hanks only increase the bias against those with religious faith (not just Mormons). Hollyweird actors often think they are on the forefront of civil rights issues but they are not in this case. Gay rights are not a civil rights issue. They are a small special interest group looking to have more rights then the rest of us. They have fooled many in Hollyweird and the liberal community.
Hollyweird actors and actresses should consider more about what they say and get more information before they speak out. I think twice about going to movies with people that I disagree with. I don't want my money going to support issues I don't support. Most movies seem relatively uninfected financially by those in them, but that may not continue forever. They should remember that.
-Side issue- The witch hunt against people in the arts that supported prop.8 is also very cruel. Taking their jobs is blacklisting pure and simple. I thought that actors were against blacklisting!!! If anything Tom Hanks should be calling for those peoples jobs to be restored. Losing your job because of your beliefs is more un-American.
