Think again!
Nope, Congress which couldn't even give us a vacation from the gas tax this summer. Will now most likely do the opposite. Read about it
here.
I think some changes are necessary. The gas tax was meant for road construction and maintenance. Today in typical government fashion, money gets spent on something else besides the original thing. The biggest non-road expense is rapid transit.
Less than 5 percent have used rapid transit, less then 1 percent use it on a regular basis. But in many places in the US up to HALF of the tax is spent on rapid transit. I think 100% needs to go to the roads, other ways must be found to pay for rapid transit, which cannot support itself due to the government running it. Meanwhile the other 99% who use the roads pay for transit we will never use. And our roads fall apart even though we spend a fortune in taxes .
I am not against rapid transit. It just can't do what many wish it would. We need to get real about it. Most people use cars. The money should go to the roads.
When the Democrats took Congress gas was about $2.18 a gallon. Now its nearing $5. It has increased by over 75%. Now they think they can jump-start the economy with road and transit projects, which is why this tax comes up again. Don't they understand any basic economics??
The Democrats think they are going to have a election landslide this fall. Being this stupid gives the Republicans a huge chance to stand up. Leading by stopping this nonsense and helping the average voter could really shock the liberals into losing again.
