Ah, I have never given the Open Mouth, Insert Foot to outgoing U.N. secretary-general Kofi Annan. So I better do it now since he is finally leaving the U.N. after "running" it for the last ten years. After he leaves we will most likely never hear from this person anymore. Thats a good thing, he has been a particulary awful secretary-general with corruption being very bad for the last couple of years.
Annan joins the "elite" slam President Bush crowd. He is yet another one of the never let it go criticism about Bush's foreign policy (mostly the Iraq war part of it anyway). President Bush, who got stuck cleaning up yet another U.N. (and Clinton) mess get criticized by one of the ones responsible! Bush, who knows that his job is to put the U.S. first (duh), has to put up with this endless harping that he puts the U.S. first. What other country has to put ifself last in its own foreign policy besides the U.S. ? (Ok maybe Israel and Britain) No other nation on the planet has too!
Like nations with real human rights abuses! Like Saudi Arabia, Cuba, North Korea, China, Iran, Russia and most of Africa . No words about those all to many places in the world. Nope, just how we handle some war criminals. Who, if someone actally asked the average American, how we handled them would say that we handle them all too nice. It just foolish, the U.N. these days, and Annan just makes it worse.
I wonder how long the U.N. will last. It will someday join the League of Nations in the dustpan of history. The U.S. at least had the sense to stay out of the League. The reason the U.N. still is here today is because the U.S. keeps it around. It doesn't do us any good. The idea of "United" Nations will never work when you include the outlaw nations commited to destroying democratic nations. And it will never work when you let people like Annan run it.
