Another myth that the "mainstream" media likes to repeat frequently. Is that Christians are against medical advances and sciences in general. It is becoming common "knowledge" that Christians hate science since the scientific world rejects Creationism. I do criticize the scientific community for their knee-jerk rejection of Creationism, but I do realize that not all scientists reject it (even some non-Christian scientists don't).
I think that many people don't even think that Christians are in the scientific world. They think that our objections to
embryonic stem cell research has absolutely no scientific bases. That is wrong as well, not only do many object to the moral problems with it, the research so far has shown to be, NOT very promising. At least in comparison with adult stem cell research which HAS already brought medical advances. Adult stem cell research which of course the media does not separate from the embryonic stem cell research.
So people don't know there is a difference between the two. Great job media nitwits. So its "Stem Cell Research and that Christians oppose it". Embryonic stem cell research should be opposed (and not just by Christians, anyone with any ethics should as well). Adult stem cell research should go forward, it has already brought some advances to medicine and should in the future as well. It doesn't have the moral and ethical problems that embryonic research has. It isn't opposed by the Christian community and it shouldn't be.
I am thankful for science and the advances in life that it can bring. It needs the highest moral and ethical commitments from all that work in it. And this is why!

This cute little guy is my nephew Danny. The only reason he is standing there in that photo at the age of 20 months is because of modern medical science. He has Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. If you were born with this condition as recently as 30 years ago you had a lifespan of only about 4-5 days. About 2000 newborns a year have this problem, more infomation about HLHS can be found here. He has had three open heart surgeries already and faces at least one more. There are now people in their twenties that have now survived this condition all because of advances in medical technologies.
Science is a gift just like just about everything else. It can bring great things and can also be used for great evil. How would you explain it to someone that they were saved because of some horror that someone committed for the greater "good". Science is not a god, and scientists need to remember that. There is a lot that is at stake here. Thats why it is important!
