Well I was going to post this entry on Saturday but Townhall must have been getting a lot of traffic. Hopefully some upgrades are in their plans because the blogs have been very slow the last couple of weeks. But that is good news! There are over two thousand blogs on this site, not bad since it only been going since July.
Today's "winner " of the Open Mouth, Insert Foot is Elton John. I have been "awarding" most of these to "celebrities" it seems. I guess it is because they have the highest chance to say something dumb in front of a microphone. Elton wins it because he slams organized religion during an
interview. He doesn't talk about a particular religion but we get that it isn't Islam we are talking about. He would like to ban organized religion. Like there would be a way to even do that!
He is one of the many celebrities that believes in free speech for only liberals. Imagine the outrage that would come from him if people tried to ban untalented musicians from performing or recording. Free speech is a great thing, but it sure is wasted on guys like Elton John. It sure wasn't the free speech the founding fathers (I know Elton isn't American) were thinking of.
I sure wish that Elton would keep his dumb ideas to himself. It adds nothing to public talk of ideas, but only poisons them more. He would not debate something like that with someone because he doesn't want to be found out to be wrong. Like a secular government is going to stop "hate". Its history on that is much worse on protecting people. The Nazis and Communists (very secular governments) managed to kill more people in one century then all the people killed in the "name of religion" in the last twenty. Secularism is much more scary then religious people.
